Homework Policy:
In my ELA class, homework is not given daily. If there is a homework assignment, I will check to make sure it is completed on the day that it is due. The students are given a grade for their homework based on completion, NOT correct responses. Therefore, if a student comes to class with their assignment completed according to the directions given for the assignment, they will receive a grade of 100% for that assignment. If the assignment is only partially completed or they did not follow directions, points will be deducted accordingly, and if it is not completed at all or they do not have the assignment in class with them, they will receive a grade of 0% for that assignment. If I give the class an assignment to finish for homework that will count as a larger part of their grade (such as a test or quiz grade), I will accept the assignment late WITHIN REASON (no more than a week), however 5 points will be deducted from the total assignment grade for each day that it is late.
* I do understand that sometimes extenuating circumstances can occur. If you or your child contacts me to inform me of any such circumstances, I will do my best to work with you so we can reach an outcome that is acceptable for everyone.
I use this policy as a tool to help boost the students' grades in the event that they do not do well on all tests or quizzes. With this policy in place, it ensures that as long as a student is working hard and putting ample effort into their work, they should still be able to pass the class even if they fail to get the desired grade on a test or a quiz.
